A drop is an ocean...

“Tu pyaar ka saagar hai
Teri har boond ke pyaase hum…”

Every single drop counts. And we gather those drops. What then? Does water stay? No. Not the way one imagines ‘staying’ to mean. But water that wets us gives us respite – from heat, from thirst, from just a feeling of being touched by something.

I have an old memory of just watching the world through a single drop of water held at the tip of my index finger. It seemed to have become pregnant with my gaze for it was suddenly swollen; then it started to look like a bubble, a prism, a kaleidoscope. I blew on it and it quivered like a shy child unused to attention. At one point, it moved, almost in a balletic stance.

Did I see too much in it? Isn’t it better than seeing less? That drop has gone but it made me realise how precious each one is. If the ocean can embrace me, then a drop can kiss…it can take you beyond what gives it birth… “Jaana hai saagar paar”…

Tu pyaar ka saagar hai

You have a very annoying habit of bringing out old classics. They make me very uncomfortable as they remind me of those good old innocent days. I grew up in the era where these songs hadn't yet been appropriated by nationalist/ communal forces. So, one could listen to them and appreciate them without any bias...

Btw, is the lyricist Shailendra Singh? I am not too sure about the surname because all this while, he was known only as Farzana.

PS:

I just reproduced the name from the site...and this, bringing out old classics, is the least of my annoying habits...

Farhan:

Thanks for the additional info. Nutan and Balraj Sahni are my absolute favourites.

This is one of my all time favourites.

I hope you're not missing the 'Song of the day' elsewhere as far as you can manage. I have the same (allegedly) annoying habit as yours :)

Don't break this habit. My 'elsewhere' these days is here...
